Wake with light,
not alarm.

LumAlarm stages a sunrise across your screen and flashlight, then fades sound in only as you surface. A calmer, kinder start — for light sleepers, early risers, and anyone chasing a better morning.

Why light first

Being shaken awake by a siren spikes cortisol and heart rate. A sunrise does the opposite — it eases you up through your lightest sleep, so you wake clear, not jolted.

How it works

Light leads.
Sound follows.

In the window before your alarm, LumAlarm stages a sunrise — then lets sound arrive last, gently, once your body is already rising.

Light fills the room

Your screen stages a living sunrise while the camera flashlight ramps in step — both adapting to the room's brightness so it's never a glare in the dark.

Sound, as you surface

Curated birdsong layers into chimes, then your alarm — and dismissing reveals a spoken greeting, the weather, and a handoff to your music.

Sleep science

The science of a
softer morning.

A short, honest guide to why light, timing, and routine shape how you wake — the thinking built into LumAlarm.

auto_storiesStart here

Why a sunrise wakes you better than a siren

Your body starts preparing to wake about an hour before you rise — a natural climb in cortisol and core temperature, and light is its strongest cue. A gradual brightening lets that process finish on its own, so you surface from lighter sleep feeling alert rather than startled. A sudden alarm can instead yank you out of deep sleep, triggering a stress response and the groggy fog known as sleep inertia. Leading with light — and letting sound arrive last, and softly — works with your physiology instead of against it.

light_mode

Light is your master clock

Morning light anchors your circadian rhythm; warm, dim light at night protects melatonin.

cyclone

Wake in your lightest sleep

A wake window lets gentle cues catch you while you're already stirring — not mid deep-sleep.

event_repeat

Keep a consistent schedule

A steady wake time stabilises your clock and beats a single long weekend lie-in.

FAQ

Good questions.

Can't find it here? The Help center covers setup, and the Sleep Library goes deep on the science.

Does the screen stay on all night and drain my battery?expand_more
No. The sunrise only runs during the wake window you choose — anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes — and the screen stays dark the rest of the night. A typical ramp uses very little power; plug in overnight if you'd like total peace of mind.
Does the flashlight really make a difference?expand_more
Yes — the camera flash adds real, room-filling light alongside the screen, which matters if your phone is face-down or across the room. Use the screen, the flashlight, or both, and let LumAlarm adapt the intensity to how dark the room is.
Will it still wake me if the phone is locked?expand_more
Always. LumAlarm runs as a proper alarm and takes over the screen at wake time even when locked, with the same large Snooze and Dismiss controls — and an optional math or tap challenge if you tend to dismiss in your sleep.
Can I wake to Spotify or my own music?expand_more
You can layer curated sounds — birdsong into chimes into your alarm — and bring custom ringtones from your device. After the alarm, hand off to internet radio, a local track, or Spotify to carry the morning on.
Does it work offline? Are there ads?expand_more
The alarm, sunrise, and sounds work fully offline; only the spoken greeting's live weather needs a connection — without one, it greets you and simply skips the forecast. And no, there are no ads. Interruptions would rather defeat the point.
Is it accessible, and what permissions does it need?expand_more
Accessibility is a core requirement: large touch targets, content descriptions on every control, full screen-reader support, and light and high-contrast themes. It asks for the camera (flashlight), alarm and notification access, and optionally your location for local weather — nothing leaves your device beyond that weather lookup.
Your next morning

Start waking up
gently.

Set one alarm tonight. Wake to light tomorrow. Feel the difference by the weekend.
